In case you haven’t noticed I love to be creative! In fact, I've been creative my entire life, from the time I was a kid I would sit under mom’s sewing table and collect her scraps to create clothes for my dolls. I taught myself how to draw and eventually learned to paint. In childhood I was surrounded by creative people. Mom was a seamstress and my aunt a well known ceramic artist, so I learned to embrace my own creativity.
When my kids were born, I started scrapbooking as a keepsake way to save the beautiful photos of family and sweet memories, however I quickly learned that just photos and paper wasn't enough to keep me happy. This is when I discovered mixed media, and a whole new world of creative freedom opened up for me.
I was recently asked just what it is that gives me inspiration and I realized that is a difficult question.
I am inspired by so many things in the world around me. Sometimes it’s the shape of something, or sometimes the colors, it's all encompassing!
When my kids were little, they would always laugh at me as I would pause to take a photo of the tiniest bug, just because the colors were so beautiful to me. I find inspiration everywhere, from the colors of the sky, the texture of the asphalt, the scent of fresh rain.
My art has been described as eclectic and I would have to agree, I enjoy the art of discovery.
I like to try things out just to see what works. To me, that is part of being an artist.
Some say that in order to be a “true” artist, one needs to have a definable style. That's just an excuse for those who lack the ability to think outside the box.
The artistic mind should be inquisitive, wild and set free to explore the possibilities. Trying to tame that serves only to dampen the spirit of creativity.
I'm in love with my inks!
There was a lot of time spent experimenting with different combinations of ingredients but the end results are unique vibrant colors with an unmatched depth and luster.
The alcohol based inks work equally well on porous and non-porous surfaces. The water/acrylic inks are highly pigmented and a little goes a long long way, making them a super value.
And about the dust...oh the dust is so beautiful and unique. It contains a proprietary blend of pigment, a shading agent and a texture element all in one product!
